Day 71 – The Weight of “What If”

Today was a rough morning.  I am feeling more of the weight of the “What if…?”

What if I don’t sell anything this fall?

What if it’s not just the fact that it’s 100 degrees outside that people aren’t buying?

What if I just spent $10,000 on ads to get me $350 in sales?

What if my styles don’t resonate?

What if this isn’t going to work?

I woke up feeling de-motivated, so I read my book, talked to God, spent some time in silence, touched grass, and then went to work.

I started with the easy stuff: responding to influencers, searching around for more influencers, updating my stock numbers, organizing the coats.  Each day I do something is progress.  God didn’t ask for genius or my absolute best effort 10 hours a day; He asked me to be consistent.

Knowing how I was feeling, I listened to an episode of Modern Wisdom #970 with Dr Mike Israetel and they were talking about (what else?) motivation.  At one point Dr Mike was discussing habits around working out.

He said “What if you stuck to it for six months straight?  Think about how much you could accomplish.”

Those words felt like a message with a different What If :

What if I stick to it for six months straight?

What if everything changes for me in another three months?

What if Martindale becomes bigger than I could have imagined?

Most mornings, when I walk downstairs, I tell the coats “Good Morning” and “Don’t get comfortable.  You won’t be here much longer.”  I didn’t feel like it today, until now, so I turned around and told them “Good Morning” and “Don’t get comfortable. You won’t be here much longer.”

It made me smile.
